Grapefruit is an amazing fruit rich in calories and different vitamins and minerals compared to many other fruits.
This fruit is referred as a subtropical fruit and native to Caribbean regions especially Barbados. Nowadays, this fruit is available in various shops around the world.


Calories in a Grapefruit

This fruit consists of different ranges of colour including- pink, white, ruby etc. The outer layer colour is mainly yellowish. This delicious fruit is eaten as raw, with different spices or added with other food to improve their nutritional value and taste. Grapefruit mainly rich in Vitamin (Vitamin A, Vitamin C), Minerals ( Potassium, Magnesium) and Antioxidants ( Lutein, Xeaxantin). Vitamin A and C inside grapefruit helps to prevent thus vitamin deficiency.

According to USDA (United States Department of Agriculture), per 100g of Pink and Red Grapefruit contain 42 calories of energy. Besides, it carries 11g of Carbohydrate in which 7g in Sugar and 1.6g is dietary fiber. It also contain 0.8g of Protein and a very low amount (0.1g) of fat.

Moreover, Grapefruit is also rich in various vitamins and minerals. This fruit is rich in Vitamin (A,B,C,E,K) and minerals ( Potassium, Magnesium, Sodium, Calcium, Iron etc). It is rich in antioxidants- Lutein, Xeaxantin, Vitamin C and some amount of Beta carotene.

Together this nutrients help to promote development and proper functioning of body. As this fruit contain Vitamin C and antioxidants in good amount, thus it helps you to fight against flu, cancer and inflammation. Also Vitamin A helps to protect your eyesight. One of the important thing of this fruit is it has low fat and almost low amount of sugar and thus help to control diabetes, obesity and blood glucose level.

Besides these nutrients, eating grapefruit also have some problem. The main problem is eating this fruit with some drugs. Study suggested that, there are some adverse conditions for eating grapefruit while taking some drugs. So must ask your medicine specialist before taking grapefruit and drugs.
