Machu Picchu Elevation

Machu Picchu is a famous Inca city that is located in the Eastern Cordillera, MachuPicchu district, Peru. It is just above the Sacred Valley on the Andres Mountain almost 80 kilometres norwest of Cusco. One of the famous river in South America, Urubamba flows beside Machu Picchu.

The word Machu Picchu comes from native Quechua words- 'Machu' meaning 'Old' and Picchu meaning 'Pyramid'. Thus together it meaning Old Mountain. This Inca city was founded ik 1450. Later Archaeologist Hiram Bingham discovered it.

The elevation of Machu Picchu is about 2,430 meters (7,970 feet) above sea surface. Urubamba river almost covers 3 sides of this place. This amazing valley covered with dew in the morning and in the evening. Machu Picchu contain several amazing architecture. Among them- Inti Watana, Temple of the Sun, Temple of the Condor, Temple of the Three Windows, The Principal Pyramid and The Guardhouse are most important. Every year millions of visitors come to Peru to explore this place.
